How To Swim In The East River Without Getting Totally Grossed Out

There are very few reasons we would voluntarily enter the East River, but this just might be one of them. The +Pool is a project proposal on Kickstarter that aims to put a filtered, 9,000 square-foot floating swimming pool square in the East River.

The +Pool team, which has been developing the project for the last 12 months, just aligned forces with Arup, an independent engineering firm, and is starting to gain momentum and buzz around the city.

The complex would feature a children’s pool, a lap pool, a lounge pool, and a sports pool, and would be filled with river water (don’t be grossed out — a three-part filtering system would block out unwanted contaminants.)

The +Pool team is trying  to raise $25,000 in donations to begin testing the pool’s filtration resources and system; they’ve already raised over $10,000 and have nearly a month to go.

*An earlier version of this post said the pool would float in the Hudson River; it’s actually planned for the East River.

The +Pool will contain four separate swimming areas

It will be accessible from the city's east side

Here's what the lap lanes would look like

Nice bridge views from the middle of the river

Looks like a pretty nice place to spend a summer day
