Jared Padalecki said he’s “gutted” and “had no involvement whatsoever” with the newly announced “Supernatural” prequel led by his former co-star Jensen Ackles – and that he only found out about the new show through social media.

For 15 seasons, Padalecki and Ackles starred as demon-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. The show came to an end in 2020.

Deadline reported Thursday that “The Winchesters,” a prequel following Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester, was in development at The CW, executive-produced by Ackles (who’s also reprising his Dean role as the prequel’s narrator) and Ackles’ wife, Danneel Harris, a recurring “Supernatural” guest star.

After Ackles shared the prequel announcement on Twitter, Padalecki quote-tweeted him saying that while he was “happy” for Ackles, he was “bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

“Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter,” Padalecki tweeted.

When a fan asked if he was joking about not being involved and not knowing about it beforehand, the actor confirmed he was serious.

“This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted,” Padalecki said in a quote-tweet.

While Padalecki expressed that he might have liked to be involved with “The Winchesters,” “Supernatural” creator Eric Kripke implied in a tweet on Thursday that Padalecki was “too busy Texas Rangering” (aka, starring on the new CW show “Walker”) to work on it.

Representatives for Ackles and Padalecki didn’t immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

‘Supernatural’ fans are unhappy Padalecki’s character won’t be in the prequel

Some “Supernatural” fans echoed Padalecki and tweeted they were “hurt” he wasn’t going to be involved with “The Winchesters.”

Other fans said they’re not particularly excited about a prequel storyline following John and Mary, especially since Sam wasn’t going to make an appearance.

Despite fan outrage on Padalecki’s behalf, the former on-screen brothers took to Twitter on Friday to show that they’re still on good terms.

Padalecki tweeted on Friday that the two “had a great talk” and “things are good,” adding that “The Winchesters” is still in very early stages of development.

“We’ve travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps,” he said of their bond. “Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers.”

Ackles responded to Padalecki’s tweet, saying he loves and misses him.

“I forgot how much face time we always used to get,” he said, quote-tweeting Padalecki. “I know you’re busy…as am I, but you’re still my brother. I miss you, pal.”
