If you’re a fan of the Steelers or Packers considering a last minute trip to Dallas, you should know that tickets to Super Bowl XLV will cost you several thousand dollars and plane tickets will also set you back about a grand. But finding a place to stay isn’t quite so difficult. If you’re like me, you’d probably be trying to save money wherever possible on this trip, and the first place you’d look for lodging is an aggregator site like Hotels.com.
A quick search of that Web site shows that the cheapest room for two adults from Friday through Monday in Arlington is a two-star Quality Inn at $140 a night, and many hotels in the area are requiring a four night minimum stay.
However, if you venture a little farther away from the game site, you can pay as little as $79 a night. Granted, that’s for a two-star Comfort Inn, and it’s in Plano, 40 minutes away from Cowboys Stadium, but that’s a completely normal price for that type of hotel. A three-star Courtyard by Mariott in Richardson, also about 40 minutes away, is just $89.
Obviously the closer you get to Cowboys Stadium, the more you’re going to have to pay. But assuming you’re getting a rental car anyway, the 40 minute drive might be well worth the savings.
