The Phoenix Suns pulled off a sign-and-trade sending Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers for four draft picks, according to Jon Bloom of 620 KTAR in Phoenix.Phoenix gets the Lakers’ first round picks in 2013 and 2015 as well as their second round picks from 2013 and 2014 and $3 million cash.
It appeared as if Nash was going to end up either with the New York Knicks or Toronto Raptors, but ultimately a late push from Kobe Bryant convinced him to chase his first NBA title with the Lakers, according to reports.
However, the fact that playing in LA allows Nash to remain close to his family in Arizona may have played the biggest role in this move.
With Nash on board for three years, and still able to play at an All-Star level, chances are good the Lakers won’t be as aggressive as they have been about acquiring Dwight Howard.
A Nash-led offence takes a lot of pressure off Kobe and will make Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum much bigger threats on the pick-and-roll.
