The White House has come up with a new program called “Startup America Partnership.”It’s stated goal, according to Bloomberg, is “to increase private sector investments in startup companies and small businesses.” There will be a week of events at the White House, sponsored by big companies like Intel, HP, and IBM.
AOL’s old boss, Steve Case, will “lead the campaign.”
It’s all for show, of course.
Big companies have huge corporate development teams constantly looking for places to put their companies cash. They don’t need a pep talk from the President to look for investments in startups.
Good PR is good PR and this kind of thing is hard for people to resist. The President gets to look business-friendly, and businesses get to look like they care about the country’s overall welfare.
