Gearing up for summer travel, Credit Card Outlaw is focusing this month primarily on airline and hotel rewards credit cards. More specifically, we are highlighting offers which provide a generous sign-up bonus in time to be used toward your summer vacation. Our favourite offer this month is the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. New cardholders receive a lucrative Starpoints® bonus: “10K with your first purchase and another 15K when you spend $5k within 6 months – enough for up to 6 free nights at a category 1 or 2 hotel.”

Aside from booking hotel stays within the Starwood family of resorts (Westin, W Hotels, Aloft, Le Meridien, St. Regis, among other brands), you can redeem your Starpoints “with over 350 airlines through SPG Flights.”

There are no blackout dates, and there’s a $0 intro annual fee for the first year, which is more than enough time to redeem your points for free stays.

Points add up quickly if you use the card during your stay: “Receive up to 5 Starpoints for every eligible dollar spent at SPG Hotels & Resorts – 2 Starpoints per dollar spent on the Card in addition to the 2 Starpoints you can get as an SPG member.”

Finally, it’s worth noting that Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card owners enjoy “exclusive elite privileges,” including late check-out (4 p.m. when available) and upgrades to enhanced rooms (when there’s availability).
