There’s a crazy rumour on BGR right now, following WSJ’s story that Sprint is betting the company on selling the iPhone.BGR reports that an industry source says the redesigned iPhone 5 will launch this fall exclusively on Sprint. It will also run on the carrier’s 4G network and have a thinner, sleeker design than the iPhone 4.
AT&T and Verizon will have to wait until early 2012 to get the iPhone 5. That device will run on their 4G LTE networks.
In the meantime, the two largest carriers will get the iPhone 4S. The 4S looks just like the current iPhone 4, but has a faster processor, more memory, and a better camera.
Wow! That’s a lot to swallow.
Although BGR says it trusts its source, we’re highly sceptical Apple would snub its largest customer base — Verizon and AT&T users — in favour of tiny Sprint.
Another thing to take into account is that BGR claims the iPhone 5 will run on Sprints WiMax 4G network. That doesn’t make sense since Sprint is moving to the faster LTE standard for its network.
