All the companies on the S&P 500 are categorized into one of 10 industries. Here’s how much market cap each industry has held over the past 38 years:

Here’s another chart that divides the same 10 industries up by how much money they made that year:

During the late 90s, when info tech had 32% of all the market cap in the S&P 500, it generated only 16% of the net income.

In contrast, at the height of the financial bubble, the sector held 22% of the market cap but generated 32% of the income.

It shows how not all bubbles are the same.
