Sony announced today that it has promoted consumer electronics boss Kazu Hirai to President and CEO, replacing Howard Stringer, WSJ reports.Stringer once called Hirai, who has managed the company’s PlayStation gaming division since April, the “first among equals to succeed him.”
Hirai will assume his new role April 1.
Stringer will remain executive chairman until the company’s June shareholders meeting, when he will become chairman of the board.
Sony’s stock is just about the lowest its been in 20 years, and the company is facing its fourth straight year of losses.
