Ahmed Abdulqadir Warsame, a member of Al Qaeda’s Somali affiliate Al Shabaab, was secretly brought to New York late last night to face terror charges in a civilian court, NBC reports.Warsame, who is allegedly responsible for coordinating the relationship between Al Shabaab and Al Qaeda, has been held on a Navy ship since his April 19 arrest in Yemen.
He has reportedly shared “valuable intelligence” regarding Al Qaeda activity in Somalia and Yemen. He was interrogated for several weeks before being read his Miranda rights, “at which point his cooperation stopped,” according to NBC.
Warsame faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted of providing support Al Qaeda and Al Shabaab.
