Saturday Night Live devoted its cold open last night to poking fun at the Republican Party’s inability to get behind front-runner Mitt Romney.Jason Sudeikis played a characteristically awkward Romney, and was facing questions from the press asking if he would back another candidate jumping in the race.
‘Romney’ said he was going to get angry if the media didn’t give him attention:
“We’re talking Mormon angry. I mean, you are going to start hearing words like shucks, fudge — and the biggy, cheese and crackers. I know I have shortcomings, OK? I’m plain spoken. I’m a little stiff and my voice sounds like a black comedian doing a white guy voice.”
Bobby Moynihan suddenly appears as Chris Christie and takes control of the press conference — yukking it up with the press corps and telling them they only have to wait four more years to poke fun at his weight.
“I’m going to run in 2016. I just can’t do it now. Let’s just say, I got to make a couple things go away first. But after this poor bastard loses, I’ll get a nice head start, run in four years,” he said. “It will be great. Fat president! Come on, it writes itself.”
