Skillshare, a marketplace for online classes, has launched a $5,000 giveaway on its site where one lucky diploma-holder can win “a golden parachute” to put toward his college loan debt.
The deadline to enter is March 17, so you’d better act fast if you’re stuck in a lifemare like one of these commenters.
You can enter the contest here.
Skillshare’s creative director, Thompson Harrell, told Your Money the decision to host the contest was right in line with the startup’s core values—”democratizing education by making it affordable and accessible to every single person on this planet,” he said—while providing a rare opportunity to turn our dour economic news into something positive.
“We thought it was about time the little guy got some help,” said Harrell, before adding that the Project on Student Debt pegs the average class of 2010’s debt at $25,250.
“So when we say, ‘Win a $5,000 golden parachute to pay off your student debt,’ we’re deliberately borrowing language from a cultural conversation and flipping it on its head to let the average student in debt know that they also deserve to get bailed out,” said Harrell.
It’s also a clever play on Dick Bolles’ classic “What the H am I doing with my career?!” book, “What colour Is Your Parachute?”
