PHOTOS: What The World's Busiest Cities Would Look Like Without People

Is a city without people a city at all? Artistic duo Lucie & Simon have rendered these photographs of cities around the world—New York, Paris, Beijing—virtually people-less. They call the photographs the Silent World Project.

They did this by developing a black filter for their camera. With such a filter, it takes several hours to record one image, and all elements in movement disappear from the resulting photograph.

They write: “In the Silent World project, we wanted to study and transform our world’s most symbolic metropolises into imaginary, fictional, impossible places.”
