A “really weird” discovery on an L.A. sidewalk has bewildered police. They are currently investigating what appeared to be a pair of lungs lying on a sidewalk in South L.A., the Los Angeles Times reported.

“We don’t know what they are,” Sgt. Robert Dean of the L.A. Police Department told the Times. “It’s really weird.”

The coroner’s office was on the scene as well and is reportedly trying to determine if the alleged lungs are human or animal.

The woman who found the lungs snapped a few photos of the organs before giving the police a call.

It was the only heads-up police got about the discovery, according to local news website My Desert.

This isn’t the first time passersby have found body parts littering the Los Angeles landscape. In January, hikers found 66-year-old Hervey Medellin’s severed head beneath the Hollywood sign. Medellin’s other body parts were found in the area.

Police initially suspected Canadian cannibal Luka Rocco Magnotta was responsible for Medellin’s death, a theory that has since been disproved.
