One of the lawyers behind a massively successful sex bias suit against drug maker Novartis has a new target: international corporate law firm Greenberg Traurig.Plaintiffs’ lawyer David Sanford is representing ex-Greenberg partner Francine Griesing in a proposed class action that says the firm treats its female partners like second-class citizens.
Greenberg is less likely to hire or promote women, Griesing says, and it pays them less than male partners for the same work.
In response, the law firm is apparently trying to discredit Griesing as an opportunist and a media hound.
“The lawsuit filed today by Francine Griesing and her attorneys is an affront to the accomplished, talented women of Greenberg Traurig, who, like all of our lawyers, are compensated based on merit,” high-ranking Greenberg lawyer Hilarie Bass said in a statement.
Bass called the suit a “publicity stunt” that’s not backed up by any facts.
For his part, David Sanford says Griesing is an impressive woman whose “bravery and dedication” will open up opportunities for other women lawyers.
