Serena Williams Receives Emergency Treatment For Hematoma

Tennis star Serena Williams has been hospitalized after suffering a pulmonary embolism last week.Williams has visited Cedars-Sinai Medical centre in Los Angeles several times over the course of the last week, but on Monday her condition worsened. 

People magazine reports that Williams underwent emergency treatment for a hematoma that developed as a result of the pulmonary embolism treatment. 

Williams has suffered through a difficult year.  She hasn’t played a match since Wimbledon last July after cutting her foot on glass at a restaurant.  She had been travelling between Los Angeles and New York for treatment on her foot.

Williams was in attendance for the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday.
