Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed Friday that Al Qaeda is believed to be behind a potential terror plot timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
In a speech at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York on the future of America’s counter terror operations, Clinton said that while the terror attack remains unconfirmed, U.S. intelligence points to Al Qaeda operatives as being involved in the plot.
“We are taking this threat seriously,” Clinton said, while asking citizens to be “eyes and ears” of vigilance to aid in squashing an attack before it can unfold.
Thursday evening, the Department of Homeland Security indicated that they had, “specific, credible, but unconfirmed” evidence that terrorists were plotting an attack relating to the tenth anniversary of 9/11. According to the DHS, three individuals believed to be affiliated with Al Qaeda entered the U.S. in August.
