Peak employer organisation the Australian Industry Group congratulated Scott Morrison and raised tax reform as an issue for Australia’s 30th Prime Minister.
The industry group says it worked well with Morrison when he was Treasurer and Immigration Minister, taking strong policy leadership in key economic roles.
“Mr Morrison inherits an economy in good shape but not without its challenges,” says Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the Australian Industry Group.
“A top priority should be building a stronger economy and inclusive society.
“For business, we hope the new administration will among other things focus on navigating a way to broader tax reform, delivering affordable energy and addressing the gaps in our education and training system which are contributing to ongoing skill shortages.”
The industry group also thanked outgoing Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
“He ends his leadership having accomplished a great deal especially considering his narrow parliamentary majority,” says Willox.
“We wish him well and greatly appreciate the contribution he has made to this country and will no doubt continue to make.”
