Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) returned serve on rival Elizabeth Warren’s joke that, unlike Brown, she’d never posed nude to pay her tuition bills by saying, “Thank God.”
In a Democratic candidates debate earlier this week, Warren responded to a question about how she’d paid for her college tuition with a zinger about Brown’s widely publicized nude photo shoot for Cosmopolitan, which he’d used to pay for law school.
“I kept my clothes on,” Warren said.
Brown addressed that one-liner in a radio interview with his own joke, and then used Warren’s comment around to cast her as an elitist.
“Bottom line is I didn’t go to Harvard,” Brown said. “I went to the school of hard knocks and I did whatever I had to do to pay for school.”
Warren, who is considered the strongest Democratic challenger to Brown’s incumbency, has rapidly gained on him in early polls of the race. Months ago, Brown notched double-digits leads on Warren in several surveys, though the two are now locked in a statistical dead heat.
