The Church of Scientology sent an email to their members asking them to stand up for their religion and be on the attack against TomKat stories that portray Scientology in a negative light. The subject of the email is “Simple hatting on how to fight back on the internet and Stand Up For Your Religion.”
The phrase “simple hatting” is used two more times throughout the email as a method of fighting back.
Upon first read, I thought this was a typo for the word hating. Radar Online did too—they use a (sic) after the word hatting—but it appears not. Let’s go to the dictionary.
As per Merriam-Webster hatting means to furnish with hats.
But according to What is Scientology?, hatting is:
the training given to a person so that he or she can successfully perform the functions and produce the products of a specific job, duty or activity.
Thus the letter provides simple training on how to debunk negative posts on the internet.
