Samsung made one of the best smartwatches I've ever used -- here's when you'll be able to buy it

Samsung’s new Gear S2 smartwatch will be available starting Oct. 2 for $US299.99, the company announced on Wednesday. The more premium Gear S2 Classic will cost $US349.99.

When the watch initially launches this Friday, it will be available through Samsung’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, and Macy’s. It will be available in stores at Best Buy and at Macy’s Herald Square location.

The Gear S2 is the company’s first smartwatch with a round face, which makes it look more like a traditional watch than a gadget. The standard version has a sportier look, while the classic model is a bit sleeker and comes with a leather band.

Just as Apple has invented the digital crown to make it easier to navigate the watch’s interface without obscuring the screen with your finger, Samsung created its own alternative.

You can rotate the watch’s bezel (the portion of the watch that borders the screen) to cycle through apps and other bits of information. During my hands on with the watch, I found it to be incredibly useful and simple.

It’s definitely a worthy competitor to the Apple Watch and Moto 360, but unlike those watches there really isn’t any choice in terms of size. The Classic model is slightly slimmer, but it’s more expensive and still looks large on those with small wrists. Both Apple and Motorola offer different size options for its watches.
