Samsung saw huge success with its Galaxy S II launch in Korea last week, selling over 200,000 phones as pre-orders between Monday and Friday of last week. That pace clobbers the iPhone 4’s pre-order sales rate when it launched Korea. Apple’s phone had about half as many pre-orders in August of last year.
(But keep in mind, Samsung is a Korean company, so it has home field advantage.)
There’s still no word on when the Galaxy S II will hit the U.S. It has been delayed several times already (the original launch date was March 2011), and it may not come out until at least the end of Summer by some reports.
But if the sales in Korea are any indication, Samsung’s hottest phone could be a strong challenger on the iPhone’s home turf too.
