SafetyCulture gets even more serious by bringing in new VP of engineering

James Simpson, new VP of Engineering at SafetyCulture.

The former executive general manager for product at Xero, James Simpson, has resurfaced as vice president of engineering at Australian tech startup, SafetyCulture.

SafetyCulture, one of Australia’s tech high achievers, started in a garage in Townsville and now offers two major platforms – iAuditor and Spotlight – which are used by thousands of companies.

iAuditor and Spotlight are phone apps which provide checklists and incident reporting functionality. The platforms facilitate more than a million safety and quality inspections per month, according to the company.

Simpson has worked in the tech space for 13 years. Before Xero, he had a stint at Microsoft as the director of business solutions.

CEO of SafetyCulture, Luke Anear, said in a statement it was a strategic senior hire for the team aimed at boosting the company’s global footprint.

“I’m really excited to be working with James. We have grown fast with a pretty junior team, so James brings scale experience from Xero and Microsoft which is an important requirement for the next stage of our growth,” he said.

“James’ expertise will be invaluable as we define and transform our technology roadmap.”

In a statement, Simpson said it was a good time to join SafetyCulture thanks to their “exponential growth” which showed “no signs of abating”.
