Ryan Lochte just told reporters he’s finished at the 2012 Summer Olympics and will not take part in the team medley relay event after being beaten by Tyler Clary in the 200-meter backstroke earlier today. Lochte came into the Olympics with overwhelming expectations, though he did his part in hyping up his own performances.
In the end, Lochte said his results in London were “a little above average.”
Lochte famously quipped that “this is my time,” before the Games began, but yet again he’s been overshadowed by Michael Phelps, who is expected to win two more gold medals and push his overall total to 22.
Lochte’s will leave the Olympics with five medals: two gold, two silver and a bronze. He now has 11 medals over two different Olympic Games, but says he’ll be back in 2016 to lead Team USA.
