According to Transparency International’s Bribe Payers Index Russian businesses are the most likely to pay bribes abroad compared to companies in any other nation.
The Berlin-based non-governmental organisation produced its annual list to assess with what regularity companies in the 28 leading economies pay bribes overseas to aid their business.
Overall, the Netherlands and Switzerland were ranked a joint first as the nations that engaged in the least bribery. Russia ranked last below China and Mexico. For the record the U.S. ranked tenth out of the nations assessed.
The organisation also ranked which sectors were likely to offer bribes abroad. The agricultural and light manufacturing sectors paid the fewest bribes, while the public works construction industry paid the most.
