Last week it was revealed that the Atlanta Braves were planning to introduce a new cap with their old “screaming savage” logo (seen at right). However, according to Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch.com, the public backlash may have the Braves reconsidering the controversial decision. Here is what Lukas, who first leaked the new batting practice caps at ESPN.com, is now hearing:
“Word I’m hearing through the grapevine is that last week’s ESPN column on MLB’s new BP caps generated so much controversy and backlash against the Braves’ “screaming Indian” design that the team may end up switching to another cap logo.”
It’s unfortunate that the logo made it this far. But it sounds like Major League Baseball and the Braves will come to their senses before it is too late.
The logo, offensive to many, was last used by the team as a secondary logo in the 1980s. And this was the first time it was to be used on an official uniform piece since it was used as a sleeve patch in the 1960s and early 1970s.
