Anna Wintour used her power, as editor-in-chief of Vogue, to help jump start the fashion industry after 9-11, and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to help re-elect current President Barack Obama. Now rumours are swirling that Wintour could be named the next U.S. Ambassador to the UK, according to The Guardian.
Wintour, 62, was born in Britain, though she’s now a U.S. citizen.
Wintour has certainly cozied up to the Obamas as of late. She’s co-hosting a $40,000-a-plate fundraising dinner with Sarah Jessica Parker later this week. She will also be escorted by White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina to a campaign event in Chicago.
The position of U.S. Ambassador in London generally switches hands every term.
When Wintour was named a leading fundraiser in Obama’s campaign this week, rumours swelled again she might be up for the job.
But the fashion world shouldn’t freak out just yet. An unnamed source told the New York Post, “These are just rumours. She (Wintour) is very happy in her current job.”
