2012 presidential hopeful Ron Paul announced today that his campaign raised $8 million last quarter, noting that the money came from over 100,000 donors — almost five times as many contributors as Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

“The amount and nature of donations to Ron Paul proves his fundraising prowess and also demonstrates in real numbers the grassroots support Dr. Paul receives from average Americans,” Paul’s national campaign chairman Jesse Benton said in a statement.

Paul’s third-quarter total — up from $4.5 million the previous quarter — is an impressive indication that the Texas Congressman’s national cult following remains intact, and may even be growing despite the relative lack of media attention given to his campaign.
