In a surprising break from his top campaign advisor, Mitt Romney told CBS News this week that he believes that President Obama’s individual health-care mandate is a tax.
The remark puts the Republican presidential nominee in line with his party’s messaging, but further muddles his own campaign’s position on Obama’s signature healthcare legislation, directly contradicting senior strategist Eric Fehrnstrom’s assertion earlier this week that Romney agrees with the Obama administration’s position that the mandate is a penalty, not a tax.
