Mitt Romney wrapped up his summer vacation today, returning to the campaign trail after a week of family leisure time at his home along the shores of New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee.Associated Press photographer Charles Dharapak spent the week trailing the various members of the Romney family — including the candidate’s wife Ann, their five sons and daughters-law, and 18 grandchildren as they boated, jet-skied, paddle-boarded, and competed in something the family calls the “Romney Olympics.”

Dharapak’s photos offer a surprisingly intimate glimpse into the home life of the Republican presidential candidate, as he enjoyed some rare moments of respite from the rigors of campaigning.

The Romneys spent a lot of time cruising around Lake Winnipesaukee on the family boat.

The Romneys also spent time visiting with friends vacationing on Lake Winnipesaukee. Several other well-to-do Mormon families have vacation homes in Wolfeboro, N.H., including the family of hotel magnate J.W. Marriott.

The Romney clan is huge — and the annual summer vacation is mandatory for all 30+ members of the candidate's immediate family, according to reports.

And all 18 of Romney's grandchildren were there too. Here's a great photo of Romney's grandson Miles getting thrown into the lake.

The trip finally wound down on Saturday. Here, Romney surveys the compound before his return to the campaign trail.
