Mitt Romney’s lower-than-expected second-quarter fundraising totals will get a boost from a “Super PAC” that supports the former Massachusetts Governor’s 2012 presidential bid, the Hill reports. The Restore Our Future Super PAC, founded by former Romney political aides, reported today that it raised $12 million in the first six months of 2011.

Unlike the campaign, Restore Our Future can take unlimited donations from individuals, corporations, and special-interest groups. The group will disclose all of its donors by July 15.

The Romney campaign is expected to report having raised between $15 million and $20 million in the second quarter of 2012, which is below previous reports indicating Romney may have raised as much as $40 million.

The total puts Romney well ahead of his 2012 GOP presidential rivals, none of whom have reported raising more than $4.5 million to date.
