Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney released a new web video today hitting Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s plan for Social Security.
The issue became a major flash-point between the two candidates at the first GOP debate in September — after Perry called the entitlement program “a Ponzi scheme.”
The web video spotlights Florida, where Romney says Perry’s plan could cause 1 in 4 seniors to lose their benefits under the program or seniors to see a $4000 per year cut in annual payments.
Perry has been weakening in the key early state (and swing state), and embarrassingly lost the Florida straw poll last month. Romney is trying to lock up the state — and likely nomination — by winning the state’s primary on January 31.
The ad closes by directing viewers to Rick Perry’s book — where he outlines shifting the programs to the states instead of the federal government. Romney has claimed Perry has flip-flopped on many of the more controversial positions in the book.
