Roger Federer has a Titanic choice for the leading role if a film were ever made about his life.
As a 19-time major champion in tennis, Federer has long been playing Catch Me If You Can.
Few in sports have been able to match him, though Spanish rival Rafa Nadal has come close.
Speaking at the opening of the Zurich Film Festival, Federer was asked whether he and Rafa would ever appear in a biopic about their rivalry.
“Borg vs. McEnroe,” a biographical drama about the rivalry Björn Borg and John McEnroe enjoyed in the build-up to the 1980 Wimbledon men’s singles final, was released last month.
“I doubt there ever will be a movie about Rafa and me,” he said, according to Esquire. “But if there is, I’d like Matt Damon, Leo DiCaprio, or a James Bond like guy to play me.”
On DiCaprio, Federer said: “He recently won an Oscar [for The Revenent] and makes great films. I think it’s pretty good right now.”
On the Borg vs McEnroe movie, the 36-year-old added: “They have incredible stories. It was more rock and roll, let’s be honest.
“Today it’s very professional — but still we have a good time. But it’s also very similar to some extent. We can be rivals and yet get along, and I think me and Nadal have shown that, as McEnroe and Borg did.”
