Everything we know about 'Riverdale' season 3

The CWJosie and Kevin are going to grow closer on season three.

Riverdale” has some new surprises in store for season three.

The hit CW drama left Archie’s future up-in-the air after he was arrested for a murder he didn’t commit, but season three promises a three-month time jump that will put his trial front and center at the beginning of the new season. And though the Black Hood was caught at the end of season two, he’s not off the show for good.

With the new episodes comes new romances and the introduction of at least five characters, two of which will be Jughead’s sister and mum.

While fans wait in anticipation for the premiere on Wednesday, here’s what we know about season three so far.

There may be a wedding episode.

The CWSheriff Keller and Mayor McCoy were caught having an affair.

During a TV Critics Association panel in August, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said there may be a wedding episode that “involves a certain ex-mayor and a certain ex-sheriff.” That means Josie’s mum, Sierra McCoy, and Kevin’s dad, Tom Keller, could be getting hitched after their affair was discovered on the second season.

Casey Cott (Kevin) and Ashleigh Murray (Josie) also told FanSided at San Diego Comic-Con that their families are moving in together.

Kevin and Moose are dating.

The CWKevin and Moose kissed on the season two finale.

After finally kissing at the end of season two, Kevin and Moose are in a relationship. Casey Cott, who plays Kevin, told FanSided that it won’t be simple, because Moose is still closeted.

“Kevin, romantically, has a boyfriend who’s not quite out of the closet so that’s confusing and dark in its own way,” he said.

Aguirre-Sacasa told reporters at New York Comic Con that Moose’s father has an authoritative role at their high school which will cause some problems between the guys.

“We are going to see them making out more,” he added. “We’re hopefully going to go the distance with them.”

A flashback episode will feature the main teens playing their parents.

The CWCamila Mendes will be Hermione Lodge, normally played by Marisol Nichols.

At the TV Critics Association panel in August, Aguirre-Sacasa said the fourth episode of the season will be a dark take on “The Breakfast Club.” Titled “The Midnight Club,” the main teens will play high school versions of their parents.

That results in KJ Apa as Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), Camila Mendes as Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), Cole Sprouse as FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich), Lili Reinhart as Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick), and Madelaine Petsch as Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt).

The episode will reportedly reveal a secret the parents have all been hiding since their school years.

During a roundtable interview at New York Comic Con, Apa said the writers told him to tone down his impersonation of Perry because it was too comedic. At the same event, Perry told reporters that Apa has a “freakish talent” for imitating anyone.

Though some younger versions of other parents, namely Hal Cooper, have yet to be cast, we know who is playing a young Hiram Lodge.

The CW and Kelly Ripa/InstagramHiram will be played by Mark Consuelo’s son Michael.

Mark Consuelos revealed on his Instagram that his 21-year-old son Michael will be bringing young Hiram to life.

“Bucket list moment for Mum and Dad,” he wrote. “Congrats to my son Michael on being cast as the younger (and much better and handsomer) Hiram.”

Penelope Ann Miller (“The Artist”) is joining the cast.

Aguirre-Sacasa announced that Jughead’s mum, Gladys, and sister, Jellybean, will be played by Gina Gershon and Trinity Likins, respectively, at New York Comic Con.

Gladys owns a salvage yard that serves as a Serpent camp, and Jellybean, or JB, is a con artist like her mum.

Lili Reinhart told reporters at New York Comic Con that meeting Jughead’s mum may not go as well as Betty would like.

“I don’t necessarily think Gladys is going to be the woman who approves of Betty,” Reinhart said. “She’s not a true Southsider, so I think [Gladys] is going to be suspicious and probably rude.”

The Farm, where Polly lives, will be explored more.

The CWAlice and Polly hold up Juniper and Dagwood.

A clip from the upcoming season showed Alice and Polly participating in some ritual with Polly’s babies, Dagwood and Juniper.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Aguirre-Sacasa said he was inspired by Netflix’s “Wild Wild Country” documentary, as well as Allison Mack’s “Nxivm” cult, for the Farm.

At New York Comic Con, Aguirre-Sacasa said he was also inspired by the first season of “True Detective.”

A new character from Archie Comics is reportedly joining the cast.

Archie ComicsEvelyn in the ‘Little Archie’ comics.

Evelyn Evernever from the “Little Archie” series is heading to the series as a student at Riverdale High and daughter of farm leader Edgar.

In the “Little Archie” comics, Evelyn was a shy girl who didn’t really get along with the core group of friends. A teen version is featured in an issue of the “Betty and Veronica Spectacular” comic, and in it, she kidnaps Archie. In an issue of “Veronica,” she is revealed as Archie’s first kiss.

Also joining Evelyn is her dad, Edgar, the leader of the farm Polly lives on.

Alice Cooper gets sucked into the Farm.

The CWAlice Cooper is all into the organic life now.

In a roundtable interview at New York Comic Con, Mädchen Amick called Edgar a “charismatic cult leader” and said that because Alice was “broken” over her husband Hal being the Black Hood, “she was so vulnerable and such an easy target that she just went all in to the cult.”

She also said that the cult is going to become “a much more prominent problem in town.”

Amick said Alice’s big motivation this season is to “avoid everything at all costs.”

The story will jump forward three months.

The CWArchie was arrested at the end of season two.

The season will skip through most of the summer and start around Labour Day as the students prepare for their junior year. Their education is going to play into the season more.

“It’s junior year, it’s the first time they’re thinking of college and we’re going to try to infuse this season with a lot more high school stuff,” Aguirre-Sacasa said at San Diego Comic-Con. “We’re going to talk about the SATs, applying to colleges, advisers, extracurriculars, etc.”

A romance is brewing for Reggie.

The CWReggie may find love.

At Comic-Con, Aguirre-Sacasa said Reggie (Charles Melton)will find himself in “an unlikely romance.” The football player will also be working at Veronica’s speakeasy.

Someone could come between Archie and Veronica.

The CWArchie and Veronica are together when season two ends.

With Archie on trial for murder and Veronica running a speakeasy while still a high school student, the couple is headed for some hardship.

Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica, told US Weekly that someone could come between them.

“There’s a struggle,” she said. “They are going to struggle in their relationship … and there might be someone else.”

In a roundtable interview at New York Comic Con, Apa said, “Their relationship is put to the test, but at the end of the day, I feel that they will always still love each other.”

They may be a feud between Josie and Toni.

The CWToni, Veronica, and Josie went to find Cheryl.

Kelly Ripa, who moderated the “Riverdale” panel at Comic-Con,mentioned some tension could come between Josie and Toni, possibly related to Cheryl. Cheryl did have a crush on Josie early on season two.

There will be another musical episode.

Katie Yu/The CWThe first musical was ‘Carrie.’

Carrie: The Musical” isn’t the only musical the kids at Riverdale High are going to put on at the school. A second musical episode was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con.

Betty and Jughead don’t know about Alice and FP being back together.

The CWAlice is hooking up with FP.

Amick told INSIDER and other reporters at New York Comic Con that there are a few moments were Jughead and Betty question their parent’s relationship, but FP and Alice are keeping their relationship “under wraps.”

She also added that Alice isn’t at all hesitant about being in a relationship with FP.

“I think more that Betty and Jughead will be like, ‘Eww,’ where I think Alice is more, ‘Yeah, and?'”

Hal will return in some capacity.

The CWHal is the Black Hood.

Amick also said that she heard Hal “returns in a big way” during the season, despite being in prison for being a serial killer. She said she wants Alice to “confront” him so she can move on.

Hot dads of Riverdale unite.

The CWFP and Fred are going to work together,

At New York Comic Con, it was revealed that Fred Andrews is going to be teaming up with Sheriff Keller and FP Jones to take on Hiram and protect the family.

Luke Perry (Fred) told INSIDER and other reporters, “They got skin in the game. They have all got kids who are in Riverdale and there’s some bad s— happening and they’re being proactive as parents.”

Fred may get a new love interest.

The CWFred is single.

Marisol Nichols told INSIDER in the past that there could be a “sliver of hope” for a reconciliation between Hermione and Fred. But at a roundtable interview at New York Comic Con, Perry wasn’t so sure.

“I think she wishes,” Perry said of Hermione. “Before when they got together, Hiram was gone, he was in prison. It’s an actual standing, functioning marriage [now] and I just don’t think Fred would mess with that.”

But when asked if there was any chance for something between Fred and Gladys, Jughead’s mum, Perry became coy.

“I would hope that they would have enough sense to figure out that’s the thing to do here,” Perry said. “We’d burn that place down.”

Fred is going to have a hard time with Archie’s legal troubles.

The CWArchie and Fred are close.

“This is where we’re going to see Fred come off the track a little bit,” Perry told INSIDER and other reporters at New York Comic Con. “All the things that are important to him and everything that his life is about has been taken away. He doesn’t have a very good coping mechanism for that.”

Someone is going to die this season.

The CWIt couldn’t be Archie, right?

A surprise death has been teased this season and Aguirre-Sacasa told reporters at New York Comic Con that “it’s a hard decision” but something that is constantly talked about in the writer’s room.

The season will have multiple mysteries, including a death and a thing known as the Gargoyle King.

The CWWill Jughead solve more mysteries?

The Gargoyle King is an unknown character that is set to terrorize Riverdale but Aguirre-Sacasa told reporters at New York Comic Con that the first half of the season will focus on a death that could be a murder or a suicide.

According to Vulture, Laurie Lake will be a farm girl whom Jughead and Archie meet when they stumble onto her land, but not everything is going to go well.
