According to a report in the Orlando Sentinel, Phil Jackson briefly flirted with the possibility of becoming the Orlando Magic’s next general manager, but that he has now turned his attention to another job in the NBA.According to former Charlotte Bobcats head coach Sam Vincent (who played for Jackson in Chicago and also played for the Magic) the GM position “drew some interest from Phil,” but that Jackson “decided to go with another opportunity.”
It is unclear what the “other opportunity” is. But if it is a front office job, Jackson may want one of his former players, Scottie Pippen, to be the head coach.
Vincent told Brian Schmitz of the Sentinel that “a former all-star player and Hall of Famer” who had never been a head coach would have been the next coach of the Magic if Jackson had taken the job.
It didn’t take long for some to connect the dots and speculate that the Hall of Famer was Pippen, which would certainly be an eye-opening choice.
Now that they mention it, the Charlotte Bobcats, owned by Michael Jordan are looking for a new head coach.
