Recommended Airline Credit Card Bonuses

Airline and travel rewards credit cards remain some of the most popular cards for consumers. (I personally prefer the flexibility of cash back cards, but for frequent air travellers accumulating miles/points makes a lot of financial sense.)

Here are a few of Outlaw‘s featured airline credit card deals and bonuses for the month of April:

Chase Sapphire Preferred — New cardholders “earn 40,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months – that’s $500 toward travel rewards!” You can book flights using those points right within Chase’s easy-to-use Ultimate Rewards web site. Additionally, you’ll “get 20% off airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises when you book through Ultimate Rewards,” and the card has no foreign transaction fees, making it an ideal choice for those who shop or travel overseas frequently. Click here to see more details of this offer, apply, or compare with other cards.

Miles by Discover Card — New Miles by Discover cardholders “earn up to $120 in travel rewards–1,000 Bonus miles every month you make a purchase for the first year,” plus this card offers 0% Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 6 months and has no annual fee. This is a great option for those who want to accumulate air miles, without being tied to any one particular airline’s reward program. Click here to apply, compare, or review offer details.

Southwest’s Credit Card — The new Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card remains a favourite among Outlaw‘s readers and is a five-star editor’s pick. The current bonus offer includes a “free flight” (roundtrip domestic) after your first eligible purchase using the new card. Click here to apply, compare, or review offer details.

United’s Credit Card — The United MileagePlus Explorer is another strong offer, and cardholders can earn up to 40,000 bonus miles. The credit card’s $95 annual fee is waived for the first year. This is an excellent choice for those who primarily fly on United Airlines flights. You’ll earn 2 miles per $1 spent on airline tickets purchased from United and 1 mile per $1 for everything else. Click here to apply, compare, or review offer details.

(Although I’m no longer as closely involved with Outlaw, I still play an advisory role there. Every month I post an updated list of recommended card deals and bank sign-up promotions.)

Disclosures: We’re a credit card promotions site, so obviously we maintain financial relationships with numerous banks and financial institutions, including Citi, AmEx, Discover and other cards mentioned herein. This article originally appeared in slightly different form on Credit Card Outlaw.
