Geto Boys rapper Bushwick Bill died on Sunday night, according to Rolling Stone.
“Bushwick Bill passed away peacefully this evening at 9:35 pm. He was surrounded by his immediate family,” his publicist Dawn P. told Rolling Stone. “There were incorrect previous reports that he had passed away this morning. We are looking into doing a public memorial at a later date. His family appreciates all of the prayers and support and are asking for privacy at this time.”
Fifty-two-year-old Bill was a founding member of the rap trio the Geto Boys.
On Sunday morning his death was prematurely reported, but his family pushed back saying he is continuing to battle pancreatic cancer. His daughter wrote on Instagram that he was “fighting for his life.”
Earlier on Sunday a publicist for Bill, whose legal name is Richard Shaw, told the Associated Press the rapper was on a ventilator at a Colorado hospital and that his family was travelling to be with him.
April 7. The last time I saw him. He was, is and will always be a legend. God bless his soul and his family. There will never be another. RIP Bushwick Bill. Geto Boys. https://t.co/KUfgxHSAQa

Bill revealed in early May that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and had begun intense chemotherapy. Saying he hadn’t told his Geto Boys collaborators, Bill said he was sharing his diagnosis to raise awareness.
“It’s not like I’m afraid of dying,” Bill said. “It’s about life and living life and being there for family… I just want people to be aware so when they set dreams and goals they’re healthy to fulfil and live.”
