Electronics retailer RadioShack (RSH) will sponsor Lance Armstrong and coach Johan Bruyneel’s new cycling team, it announced today.
“Beginning in 2010, Lance Armstrong will compete for Team RadioShack as a cyclist, runner and triathlete in events around the world, including the 2010 Tour de France,” the company said in a release.
Armstrong is currently in third place in this year’s Tour de France, racing for Bruyneel on Kazakh-sponsored Team Astana. His teammate Alberto Contador, who won the Tour two years ago, is in first place, and has taken over as the team’s de facto leader.
Next steps include figuring out which of Lance’s pals will join him next year. (And why Twitter isn’t the main sponsor!)
On Twitter, Lance’s former Team Discovery Channel teammate (and current Team Astana teammate, out of this year’s Tour) Levi Leipheimer is staying mum: “Wow!!! I just checked my @replies, lots & lots of people asking the same question.”
