Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi may have just fired his right hand man Abdullah Senussi, according to the BBC (via The Guardian). Senussi is one of Qadaffi’s chiefs, a head of internal security in the country, who may be involved in a series of violent actions against his own people. The move would come after a day in which Qadaffi’s security forces failed to tame rebel forces throughout the country, who continue to increase their ranks to counter regime attacks.
All the while, U.S. forces are preparing for a humanitarian crisis off the coast, with leadership saying they intend to force Qadaffi’s resignation. Talk of a no-fly zone does not yet have full UN Security Council support, but the UK’s foreign secretary says it may not be necessary.
Pressure continues to grow on the international community to take further action, with a refugee crisis developing, and The Times of London publishing behind a paywall video of what they allege is a mass grave of Libyans.
