Pussy Riot Prosecutor Calls On Band To Be 'Isolated From Society', Lest They Strike Again

The trial of Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot continues.

The band is accused of playing show at a Russian cathedral that was disrespectful to the church, and the band’s members face years in prison if found guilty. The trial is widely seen as a damning indictment of the state of civil rights in Russia.

Guardian reporter Miriam Elder has been tweeting from the trial this morning, and some of the arguments made by the prosecutor and the representative of the “victims” are unreal.

For example, the prosecutor is calling on the women to be “isolated from society” lest they strike again at another religious institution.

Apparently they’re even discussing the compatibility of feminism and the Russian Orthodox Church.

The good news?According to Elder, the prosecutor is only asking for 3 years in prison, not the 7 that was a possibility.
