Neymar’s mega transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain took three giant steps forward this week.
French side PSG is reportedly willing to spend €222 million (£199 million / $US260 million) on the Brazilian and €40 million a year on wages.
The 25-year-old has won three major trophies at Barcelona but is reportedly eager to leave Camp Nou so he can escape Lionel Messi’s shadow.
Now, three new signs show that Neymar is closer to leaving the club than ever before.
Here they are:
Training ground bust-up. Barcelona is currently training in Miami, but a session was disrupted when Neymar was challenged by teammate Nelson Semedo. In a video passed to the Daily Mail, tempers flared and Neymar was restrained by Sergio Busquets, before storming off the pitch in a huff.
- Cancelled trip to China. He was due to meet fans in Shanghai on July 31, but Ctrip — the Chinese online travel agency which booked the event — said Neymar had to “deal with transfer issues,” according to football website Goal.com.
- The power is in his hands. Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu told the New York Times on Wednesday that players have a lot of power in transfer sagas. “You know that players decide if they want to leave, they can decide,” Bartomeu said.
Barcelona won’t give up without a fight, however. Bartomeu said he still wants the forward to stay. “Neymar is one of our best players, and so we don’t want to lose that player,” he stressed.
