Amazon says its Prime Day in Australia is bigger than Boxing Day

Amazon says the response to the first Prime Day in Australia has been bigger than expected.

Prime Day was introduced in 2015 in the US as a one-day only sales event claiming more deals than Black Friday to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary.

Now with Amazon launching its flagship membership program, Australians have for the first time access to sales via the local website, amazon.com.au, from midday Monday to midnight today

“We have been humbled by the response from Prime members to Prime Day in Australia, with demand exceeding our expectations, and sales surpassing Boxing Day on the first day,” says Amazon Australia Country Manager Rocco Braeuniger.

“Members across the country have snapped up the thousands of deals during the shopping event reserved exclusively for Prime members – and it’s not over.

Prime Day deals continue until midnight … across all 23 categories, from toys and gaming consoles, to fashion and books, with deep discounts continuing throughout the day. This is in addition to the great range of other shopping and entertainment benefits we’re excited to bring to Prime members in Australia.”

Top sellers so far include Echo devices, Huggies Nappies, PS4 Pro 1TB Console with Bonus Fortnite Content, Bose QuietComfort Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones and Kindle Paperwhite.

Nintendo Switch was snapped up by customers in under a minute yesterday. Responding to the overwhelming customer demand, a new Nintendo Switch Lightning Deal will go live later today, allowing more members to access the great deal.
