A system failure grounded flights at Sydney Airport this morning causing chaos and flight delays for departing passengers.

The airport confirmed the issue concerned the Airservices system.

Airservices provides Sydney Airport with telecommunications, aeronautical data and navigation services.

As 8.40am, Sydney Airport said the system issue had been resolved and asked that passengers check with their airline for further updates.

Passengers who arrived at the airport for early morning flights were told it was a “nationwide system fault”, and that it was “unknown” when their flights will take off.

Today marks the beginning of the school holidays in NSW, Victoria, WA, ACT and Queensland.
