Here’s a quick question readers, are you a horsebit or tassel fan? Shoes are one of the few things a man on the Street has to stand out, along with his cuff links.
The horsebit is house code for a number of Italian luxury giants, including PPR’s Gucci Group and Salvatore Ferragamo Group’s namesake label. It’s also generally reserved for those with some tenure — at many firms it’s a big no for analysts and associates.
American designers, including Ralph Lauren, have tended towards the tassel (although the riding theme has been a part of the Lauren aesthetic for some time, and therefore you will see him use the horsebit).
Both designs can run you some $2,350 at Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan, but you’ll probably see the $300 to $500 pairs around the office.
