Greetings!Rick Santorum really isn’t doing any more damage to Romney. There are no more debates where he can expose Romney’s weaknesses under the heat of the spotlight. His campaign is cash-poor enough that he can’t damage Romney with new ads, especially not nationally. And he has already launched every attack his campaign could possibly think to use against his rival.
Lastly, the media isn’t really interested in him anymore. It isn’t even worth it for major Republican leaders to call on him to cease and desist. It’s already over for him.
Anyway, here’s the rest.
News You May Need:
NYT: Romney has put away almost all the doubters by now. The rest will likely come along after tomorrow’s Wisconsin primary.
WP: Digital war likely the reason Al Qaeda sites went down for several days.
WSJ: Syria pledges to stand down for 10 days in its conflict with dissidents.
WSJ: Supreme Court upholds strip search policy.
The Day’s Reads:
Ann Saphir: Romney isn’t going to change the Federal Reserve.
Bill Kristol: Republican’s can’t win by bashing Obama, alone.
James Grant: Let’s try capitalism, for once.
Maggie Haberman: Romney must win back women.
James Surowiecki: On the Ryan Plan.
This Day In Politics:
On April 2- 1917 – President Woodrow Wilson asked the U.S. Congress for a declaration of war on Germany.
Not Politics But…
Obviously the Trayvon Martin case is full of political import. Here CNN puts together one of the better “timelines of events” we’ve seen.
Tomorrow is the Wisconsin Primary. Look for Romney to continue the transition toward the general election, and for stepped up calls for Santorum to get out of the race even though he doesn’t seem to be able to do any more damage.
Also, keep a running tally of all the Republican officials that make a point of saying they will not be on the ticket with Mitt Romney. With Haley Barbour adding his own name to the “don’t call me” list, it is becoming obvious that many think Romney has no shot.
