PODCAST: Sydney property, interest rates, and how to score a cheap roast chicken dinner

From left to right. Paul Colgan, Robert Rennie and David Scutt.

The Devils and Details Podcast is back after a short hiatus — and do we have a treat for you.

Today, Paul and David are joined by Robert Rennie, Global Head of Market Strategy at Westpac.

Robert has over 30 years experience in financial markets, and it shows. He’s a markets guru, having worked all over the world during his career at the likes of Morgan Stanley and Midland, now part of HSBC group.

This week, we start with what has been the major talking point for many Australians over the past month: the slowdown in the Australian property market, particularly in Sydney where prices have been falling for several months.

The discussion then broadens to look at its potential impact on the Australian economy, including what it means for the outlook on interest rates. Unsurprisingly, the household sector gets plenty of attention given recent weakness in retail sales and inflation data.

We also do a deep dive into the outlook for iron ore and crude prices, an area that few understand better than Robert. You may be surprised on what he thinks the future holds for prices.

For the roast chicken fans out there, Paul also gives away a family secret on how you can score yourself a cheap deal for a Sunday evening roast.

Enjoy.
