We were on the scene when Pinterest made its big move from Palo Alto to San Francisco. Now Pinterest has made it official. The maker of a giant online catalogue of people’s interests has signed a long-term lease on 808 Brannan Street, a 60,000 sq. ft. space, a company spokesperson tells us, confirming a report in the San Francisco Business Times.
It’s been occupying part of that space under a short-term agreement.
Just a few years ago, Palo Alto used to be the place to do a startup in the Bay Area. Google, PayPal, and Facebook all began life there, and as they grew up, they moved to nearby suburbs in the South Bay. But lately, San Francisco has been the spot for companies like Twitter, Airbnb, Zynga, and Dropbox to start and thrive.
We noticed Pinterest employees tweeting their goodbyes to their Palo Alto office last month. A tipster suggested we check out 808 Brannan. Sure enough, we saw parking placards and a Pinterest logo which confirmed the site as Pinterest’s new home.
The situation is perfect for Pinterest. It’s new headquarters is actually two conjoined buildings. Pinterest has been occupying the smaller one, 572 7th Street, while finishing the lease. Last we saw, the larger building, 808 Brannan, still needed a lot of work to be ready for occupancy.
It’s a cool space, with four levels, big industrial stairs, and dedicated bike parking and a shower for bike commuters.
