We Found Pinterest's HUGE New San Francisco Office And Took A Bunch Of Photos

Pinterest's new officePinterest!

We sidled up to the counter at one of our longtime favourite dives in San Francisco, Mars Bar & Restaurant, and asked the bartender if he knew who was moving in across the street.”Sure,” he said. “Pinterest.”

As we reported Friday, the online image-sharing board had packed up its office in Palo Alto and decamped to San Francisco, an increasingly popular destination for the most innovative new companies in the heartland of tech. But where?

The speculation can end: Business Insider has located Pinterest’s new world headquarters.

It’s 808 Brannan Street in SoMa, a block away from Zynga and down the street from the future home of Airbnb.

When Business Insider visited the site on Saturday, it looked like the work of moving was barely getting started.

Here's where Pinterest's new headquarters is located. It's close to other startups and San Francisco's 4th & King Caltrain station.

It's not the nicest neighbourhood. The Hall of Justice, headquarters for the San Francisco Police Department, is the biggest local landmark.

The Public Defender's office is across the street.

There's a car repair shop across the way.

Mars Bar & Restaurant is sure to be mobbed with Pinterest employees. A bartender here already knew Pinterest was moving in.

With the bartender's tip, we started scouting out the building.

This car, parked in a Pinterest reserved spot, was flaming awesome.

This SUV's a bit more practical. We noticed the Santa Clara University decal—and sure enough, we checked on LinkedIn and found an SCU grad who works in business operations for Pinterest. Another clue!

Big windows. Pinterest could display some of its users' amazing images here.

Here's the Brannan Street side. Yes, palm trees—South of Market is a relatively sunny haven in fogbound San Francisco.

This building, 808 Brannan, used to house a mix of offices and stores.

Lots of sunlight—which means it's going to get hot inside.

Pinterest is actually combining two buildings: 572 7th Street, a 12,000 sq. ft. warehouse, and 808 Brannan Street, a 43,000 sq. ft. mixed-use building which previously housed both offices and retail stores.

Not a lot of progress on the move yet. We spotted a pile of carpeting.

But you can see it's going to be a big, open workspace—the kind favoured by Web startups.

These workmen were installing some fixtures. Could this be a kitchen area, perhaps?

Clearly under construction, still.

We spotted some building plans.

Flynn Holdings, a local real-estate investment firm, paid $6.8 million for the two buildings last year, and CEO Greg Flynn said he'd invest $2 million to $3 million in renovations.

Pinterest's landlord had to deal with some red tape. 572 7th is a historic landmark built in 1938.

In the 808 Brannan side, there's a basement, two floors, and a mezzanine. You can see the mezzanine here.

With 55,000 sq. ft., Pinterest will be able to house more than 200 employees with ease. We counted 44 current Pinterest employees on LinkedIn. Earlier this year, the company's headcount was around 30.

The exposed ductwork and wooden beams are prized architectural features for startup spaces.

There's a circular staircase in the middle.

You can imagine having some fun from the mezzanine space.

So where's the main entrance?

Not on Brannan Street—you need to go around the corner.

Still, we had our doubts. Was this really Pinterest?

And then we saw, plainly evident from the street ...

There's a lot of work ahead to get this office in shape ...
