- “Good Morning Britain” host Piers Morgan claims to have met up with Meghan Markle on the day it’s believed she met Prince Harry.
- The unlikely pair reportedly went to Morgan’s local pub where they drank pints and martinis.
- Morgan then put Markle in an Uber to an exclusive London members’ club – where Markle reportedly first met Prince Harry.
Following the announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s royal engagement on Monday, Piers Morgan spoke out on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” on Tuesday about his own personal encounter with Markle.
Morgan stated that he met up with Markle for a few drinks at his local pub back in 2016 – before she zipped away to an exclusive London member’s club where she reportedly met Prince Harry.
The pair first met on Twitter. Morgan said he is a “big fan” of Suits, and had followed the actress for a while before they started messaging.
On “Good Morning Britain,” Morgan said: “To cut a long story short, we then spent the next year trading funny messages, then she began emailing me the Suits episodes early.”
When Markle flew over to the UK in Summer 2016 to watch Serena Williams play in Wimbledon, she reportedly messaged Morgan asking if he fancied meeting up.
“She sent me a message: ‘Hey, I’m in town, do you want to meet up?’ and I said ‘Sure, come to my local pub for a pint.”
The pair met and chatted over pints and dirty martinis for an hour and a half, according to Morgan, discussing Markle’s TV drama “Suits,” her family, and her newfound single status.
Morgan described how Markle was struggling at the time to readjust to the dating scene. Paraphrasing her, Morgan said: “I’m just recently single, some guy’s being a bit persistent at the moment and I don’t know quite what to make of it. I’m not used to the dating thing.”
When Morgan asked what her plans were for the rest of her evening, she reportedly said she was planning to meet some friends for dinner at 5 Hertford Street – an exclusive, private members club in Mayfair.
The pair then departed, and Morgan ordered Markle an Uber to the Mayfair venue.
It wasn’t until a few months later that the media reported Markle and Prince Harry’s romantic involvement, and Morgan was reminded of their own encounter.
“When the story broke about two or three months later, there tucked away was a little nugget that said they first properly met at a private members club in London either that night or the next day.
“So it could well be that I put Meghan Markle in an Uber to the arms of Prince Harry,” Morgan said.
The TV host has cheekily asked for an invite to the wedding, and confirmed that Markle is a “very smart, and very warm, nice, funny person.”
“She’s a nice person, Meghan Markle. That’s what is refreshing about this. Confident, nice, normal, smart, talented.”
