This is probably not the kind of art anyone would want to hang in their bedroom.Auctioneer Craig Gottlieb is selling a pair of portraits that are reportedly of Adolf Hitler‘s parents, Alois and Klara Hitler, according to ArtInfo.
The oil paintings are believed to have been commissioned by Hitler during his time as the leader of the Nazi party, the auctioneer told ArtInfo.
A French veteran apparently “liberated” the paintings from Hitler’s mountain retreat after World War II; they have hung in the United States since the 1980s, when the vet’s family immigrated.
Gottlieb guessed that the paintings would sell for around $100,000 based on their historical significance. The high estimate will likely weed out Nazi enthusiasts, Gottlieb said, adding that he expects the portraits to sell to scholars instead.
The online auction will run from Sept. 1 to Sept. 17.
